Norwich City’s Talks On City’s Dressing Room Cracks Despite High-profile Transfers

Norwich City’s dressing room doesn’t contain cracks, despite high-profile transfer sagas this summer, insists captain Kenny McLean.

After wantaway duo Adam Idah and Jonathan Rowe departed the club following disciplinary issues over the summer, young winger Abu Kamara submitted a written transfer request last week amid his own unhappiness at the club.

That has raised questions about the culture and atmosphere within City’s first-team playing group, but the long-serving midfielder has denied that discontent is widespread.

“It’s always united. It always has been since I’ve been here, to be honest,” the Scot said. “There have obviously been situations that, from the outside, can look like a bit of unrest, but we cannot control that. We just get on with what we have to do.

“We cannot control who comes and who goes; that is for other people. We need to concentrate on what we’re doing. That’s what we’re doing and have done. That’s why you’ve seen the improvement in performances.

“[On Friday], there was one in and one out. So what? Get on with it. That’s our job. We’re here to do as well as we can for this football club.

“The ones that are lucky enough to come into this football club or lucky enough to still be here need to give everything.”

Ahead of the final week of a transfer window that has been breathless from a Canaries perspective, McLean insists the squad is braced and ready for any changes still to come in both directions.

“It’s normal. Everybody is in the same boat – we won’t know the final squad until the window shuts,” McLean said.

“We have an environment here where I think it’s pretty easy to come into, to be honest. It’s a comfortable environment, and we try to make it good off the pitch for the lads coming in.

“Ante [Crnac] trained once and came into the team today. It’s such a hard task to do, not really knowing how we want to play. He’s had a couple of meetings and a training session. Players like him are only going to get better from working daily.

“Whatever happens in the next week, we will adapt again and ready to go. Hopefully we will be as strong as possible.”
