The Miami Dolphins have their quarterback for the future.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have agreed to pay Tua Tagovailoa so much money this offseason.
The front office is clearly very high on him, meaning that now that they got that out of the way, they needed to settle for a backup.
Unfortunately for Mike White, he lost that race.
According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins intend to release the former New York Jets quarterback.
That’s not much of a surprise, considering how well Skylar Thompson performed in the preseason finale, outdueling his teammate.
While not a superstar by any means, Thompson has reportedly beaten and outperformed White both in training camp and in the preseason.
He’s more athletic, has a stronger arm, and is also younger.
Of course, Mike McDaniel’s team could still look to keep White around on the practice squad.

Tagovailoa has struggled with injuries in his career, so it never hurts to have a plan B or someone else in place that could swoop in if needed.
If not, given his experience, other teams could also get him on the phone and give him a look.
There’s a lot at stake for the Dolphins in 2024.
It’s been way too long since their last postseason win, and while the team has played very well under McDaniel, expectations are starting to mount in South Beach.
This team has put together a lot of talent on the roster, and there’s no more room or time for excuses or shortcomings.
