A longtime Charlotte Hornets PA announcer passed away following a battle with health issues. Pat Doughty, known as “Big Pat,” died on Wednesday.
The Hornets are deeply saddened by his loss.
“Big Pat’s vibrant voice was the backbone of our game experience and energized Spectrum Center every night,” the Hornets said in a statement.
“He was dedicated to our team and our fans, even as he fought health issues in recent years. He will be greatly missed by everyone associated with the Hornets organization. Our thoughts are with Pat’s family and his many friends.”
Doughty had been dealing with kidney-related health problems. He had been in a wheelchair in recent years.
One of his coworkers, Hornets sideline reporter Ashley ShahAhmadi, is heartbroken.
“Big Pat was everything and more to the Hornets organization… loved coming in each day and seeing his smiling face… he’ll forever be missed 😞❤️,” she wrote.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family members during this difficult time.
