An international player released by Castleford Tigers in 2025 is reportedly set for a history-making move, despite signing with a new club last week.

Judah Rimbu signed for Castleford ahead of the 2025 season and was tipped for big things with the hooker the latest in a string of Papua New Guinean stars to sign in Super League, joining a number who were already at the Tigers.

One of the players that Rimbu was competing with positionally was international teammate Liam Horne, who has since left to join Leigh Leopards, but Rimbu lost out on that battle and was released midway through the 2025 season.

He’d return to former club PNG Hunters and only last week signed a deal with Brisbane Tigers for the 2026 season, however, it’s now being reported that Rimbu has found a new club for the 2027 campaign and it’s a big one.

Former Castleford Tigers man in line for Perth Bears deal

According to a report from Wide World Of Sports, Rimbu is in line to become the first signing made by Perth Bears with the Bears set to enter the NRL in 2027.

They will become the 18th NRL team when they join the competition in just over a year, but as yet, they don’t have any players officially signed.

Per this latest report, Rimbu could be the first with the 24-year-old reportedly agreeing to a train and trial deal that is “expected” to see him land a full-time contract.

Capped six times for Papua New Guinea, Rimbu has split his career between the Queensland Cup and Super League with the playmaker making ten appearances for Castleford Tigers before his release.

He fared a lot better in the Q Cup, making 78 appearances with several coming in 2025 after he rejoined the Hunters following his release from Castleford Tigers.
