The Memphis Grizzlies entered the NBA Draft with a significant need for a big man.
There were even some rumors about them looking to trade up to get Donovan Clingan, who wound up joining the Portland Trail Blazers.
With that in mind, they went after the biggest guy they could find to fill that void in their roster, and we mean that literally.

In one of the most shocking turn of events during an eventful first round of the NBA Draft, they used their No. 9 selection to land Purdue star Zach Edey.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long before Ja Morant shared his thoughts about this selection.
He didn’t have to say anything, and posting a hilarious clip from Rush Hour 3 did the trick just fine, showing Chris Tucker’s character coming face-to-face with the kung-fu giant (via Overtime).
Morant is one of the smallest point guards in the game, and he’s now going to be running pick-and-roll sets with a 7-foot-4 specimen with a 7-foot-11 wingspan.
Edey has dominated college, like few players in recent times, but there are some doubts about his prospects as an NBA player.
Some think his offensive upside is limited and that he will struggle against perimeter players.
Nonetheless, out of sheer size and length alone, he should be a difference-maker in the restricted area right away, not to mention the fact that he’s got a reputation for being one of the hardest-working guys in college.
This pick seemed like a bit of a reach, as he was projected to go in the mid-to-late first round.
Still, in a somewhat weak draft class, it made sense to go for the home run here.
