25-Year-Old Stockport County Forward Have Completed Permanent Move To Newly Promoted Championship Club

Championship new-boys Charlton Athletic are set to complete the permanent signing of Stockport County forward Tanto Olaofe, after a seven-figure fee was agreed between the two clubs. 

Both clubs were heavily involved in the League One play-off race last season, with Nathan Jones‘ side coming out on top at Wembley Stadium following their narrow victory against Leyton Orient – the side that knocked Stockport out via penalties.

However, with Charlton now turning their attention to their upcoming Championship return – it appears that a new forward is set to make the switch to the club.

Olaofe set for Charlton switch

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Charlton Athletic and Stockport County have agreed a seven-figure fee for the transfer of the 25-year-old, with personal terms the only hurdle left to be decided before the deal is completed.

The fee as reported, will be in the region of £1.5 million, but there has been no comment as to whether this is including any possible add-ons, or whether that was the forward’s release clause with the League One side.

However, Stockport County are reportedly resigned to losing their leading forward and will now begin to search for a replacement, as the two clubs begin their return to pre-season.

How did he fare last season?

Olaofe has been contracted to Stockport County since joining the club in January 2023, playing a crucial role in the clubs promotion back to League One and almost going the step further and taking the club to the Championship.

During the 2024/25 season, Olaofe got off to a flying start with a goal against Blackpool in what was his first outing of the campaign.

After a quiet run after that, the goal contributions soon began to flow and he ended the campaign with 12 goals and three assists to his name which included a vital equaliser for Stockport in their play-off semi-final against Leyton Orient.

Is he ready for the Championship?

Whilst on paper his goal numbers were few than the campaign prior remembering there was a division change), his individual performances certainly left more than a positive impression on Charlton.

Despite a lower amount of starts, Olaofe was consistently involved in almost all of their attacking situations when it mattered, as well as creating several chances and winning his fair share of duels.

Charlton’s leading man from last season was experienced forward Matty Godden, and despite his experience in the Championship with Coventry City – it was always likely that Nathan Jones’ side would pursue at least one competitor to try and increase their chances of staying up next season.

Olaofe struggled to make an impression at Millwall, but he was limited to just two league outings – meaning it would be extremely unfair to assume he won’t impress because of this.

Nathan Jones’ side are likely to create their fair share of chances next season and that could allow Olaofe to flourish.
