Four Notts County Promotion-Winning Squad Will Be Departing Meadow Lane This Summer As Official Retained List Is Presented

Four members of our National League promotion-winning squad will be departing Meadow Lane this summer.

Sam Slocombe, Kyle Cameron, Sam Austin and Adam Chicksen, all of whom played significant roles in our unforgettable return to the EFL, will be moving on with our very best wishes.

Attacking midfielder Charlie Whitaker, goalkeeper Tyler Miller and defender Robbie Cundy are also leaving upon the expiration of their contracts.

David McGoldrick, meanwhile, has been offered the opportunity to extend his stay at Meadow Lane.

A statement from our board of directors reads: “While it’s sad to be saying farewell to four players who were such important figures in our 2022-23 promotion season, they leave us with many fantastic memories.

“Sam Slocombe, our longest-serving player having joined us in 2019, has been an incredible servant to the club – both as a reliable presence between the posts and as a fantastic team-mate and role model. His professionalism and loyalty to the club is hugely appreciated by us and our supporters.

“Kyle will always be remembered as the man who captained the club during one of its most iconic and euphoric seasons. We’ll never forget the moment he won the coin toss ahead of the penalty shootout at Wembley, nor the sight of him holding the trophy aloft in the royal box.

“Sam Austin quickly endeared himself to everyone with his tireless performances, having joined us from Kidderminster at the beginning of our promotion season. He has remained an important player for us to this day and we have no doubt he will bring tremendous value to his next club.

“Adam is another fantastic professional whose goalscoring exploits during the 2022-23 campaign, combined with his phenomenal work-rate and attitude, mean he will always be regarded fondly by everyone who had the pleasure of playing with him or watching him. Having sustained an unfortunate injury while on loan at Woking, the club will be supporting him with his recovery.

“We’d also like to take this opportunity to wish Charlie, Tyler and Robbie the very best of luck for the future. They have all been a credit to themselves during their brief stays with the club.

“And, finally, a huge thank you to our loanees, Zak Johnson and George Abbott, who will be returning to their parent clubs. Both players have very bright futures and George in particular has been a hugely impressive performer, as reflected in his nomination for League Two’s Young Player of the Season award.

“George’s many excellent goals, including his volley at Accrington which saw him claim the EFL’s Goal of the Season award, are just reward for his excellent and consistent performances – and we’re proud of the platform we’ve given him to shine in his first season in men’s football.”
