Birmingham City have enjoyed a quite remarkable 2024/25 campaign, with the club returning to the Championship at the first time of asking with a record number of points in League One.
Chris Davies’ side have been the ones to watch throughout the season and there are few fears from the blue side of the second city as they head back up to the second tier following their relegation 12 months ago.
Winning promotion early has allowed Blues to start planning their summer transfer window before some of their potential rivals and predictions about Birmingham’s chances in the Championship are already being made.
However, improvements will need to be made to take the team to that next level, with supporters wanting to see their team pushing towards the top of the table in another year’s time, and one out of contract Derby County player could be the key to Birmingham’s potential success.
Kane Wilson would be a perfect addition to Birmingham City
Kane Wilson has had a fantastic campaign with the Rams, and while his team have been embroiled in the fight for survival, he will come out of these last 46 matches with his head held high.
His deal at Pride Park is set to come to an end in June, and while John Eustace will do all he can to keep hold of the right-back, he may be forced to let go if his side drop in to League One and switch places with Birmingham.
Blues should be all over a deal for the ex-Bristol City man if he is available, with his ability to take the ball past defenders with ease and put in a cross a real driving force behind his side’s upturn in form over the last two months, despite their lowly position still.

He has suffered an injury this season, and during his time away it was clear to see how much Derby missed him on the right flank.
Replacing him will be tough, but Birmingham have ambitions of a Premier League side and that could be tough to turn down if he is offered a deal.
Birmingham City will want to show their financial strength
Although it has been a walk in the park for Blues at times this season, it must be said that they do have financial backing that the other sides in League One could only dream of.
This has allowed them to build a team that is filled with Championship-level quality, and they will be hoping to take that next step once the new campaign comes about and push even further onwards.
Bringing in a player like Wilson from a team that have historical second tier pedigree in Derby would be a huge statement in the summer and at 25, he will only improve as the years go on.
| Appearances (starts) | 32 (25) |

However, survival for the Rams may just give them the upper hand in any potential battle for the signature of the full-back, with Saturday a decisive day in the history of the East Midlands club.
