Rising tennis star Alex Eala remains undeterred after facing World No. 2 Iga Świątek at the 2025 Madrid Open.
“I like to think I’m a lion in the making.”
This match marked their second encounter, with Alex having famously defeated the seasoned veteran during their first meeting.
Though Alex won the first set, she couldn’t maintain the momentum, eventually losing the next two sets. Despite the defeat, Alex expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at a high level on such iconic courts, like the Pista Manolo Santana.
Reflecting on the experience, Alex is already setting her sights on the future, fueled by a quote from her father: “If you want to be a lion, you have to live in the den.”
For now, she’s taking in the sights of Madrid—embracing the life of a teenager exploring all the city has to offer.
Wow—what an experience playing in this year’s @mutuamadridopen , especially on Pista Manolo Santana. It’s such a privilege to bring out my competitive side and perform at a high level on these iconic courts. Me siento muy afortunada de tener a todo este público apoyándome aquí en Madrid. Muchísimas gracias a todos por venir.🥰
Today’s match was a battle, and I’m counting on it not being the last. Sometime ago, my dad told me, “If you want to be a lion, you have to live in the den.” I’ve earned my place in the den—and I like to think I’m a lion in the making.
