Frank Lampard has secured another of his Coventry City players on a new extended contract with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto signing fresh terms at the CBS Arena.
The popular 28-year-old winger joined the Sky Blues in the summer of 2023 from K.V. Oostende, signing a three-year deal and going on to make 72 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals to date.
Although the Japanese player had another year left on his initial contract, he has now agreed and signed an extension to take his stay with the club to the summer of 2027.
So far this season Sakamoto has made 40 appearances, scoring four goals and producing five assists, while earning rave reviews from head coach Lampard.
“I’m so happy to sign a new contract,” Sakamoto said, speaking to the club website. “I want to thank the club for my contract, I am so happy and grateful they have given me a new contract.
“I was worried about a few things, because I have moved my family to the UK from Japan, it had been difficult because of my English, but the Gaffer, coaches, my teammates, the staff and the supporters have always helped me.
“They have all helped me settle into this country and at this club, so this is a reason why I wanted to stay and sign this new contract.”
Lampard has already handed new deals to defender Jake Bidwell and goalkeeper Ben Wilson since taking charge at the end of November.
